Samurai X (also known as Rurouni Kenshin) is an animation series produced by Studio Gallop and Studio Deen, and directed by Kazuhiro Furuhashi in 1999. The anime was based on the manga written and illustrated by Nobuhiro Watsuki. The pictures on this page are a collection of artworks created for this series.


In the final years of the Bakumatsu era lived a legendary assassin known as Hitokiri Battousai. Feared as a merciless killer, he was unmatched throughout the country, but mysteriously disappeared at the peak of the Japanese Revolution. Battousai didn't die, but he abandoned his bloodstained lifestyle in an effort to repent for his sins, now living as Kenshin Himura, a wandering swordsman.
