Winners of the “Heavy Metal” Challenge

Congratulations to Mihail Glooh, Guillaume Duchemin, Hugo Cuellar and to Mat Blanchys, the Special Guest Juror’s Choices this month! Thank you so much to ALL the artists of our community who have submitted their work for this challenge, to T-Wei for accepting to be our juror this month, and to Character Design Quarterly, the official partner of the CDChallenge, which makes this project possible.

Special Guest Juror's Message

I umm'd and ahh'd about it for a while, but I have to go with this stunner by Matt Blanchys.

My goal for this was to focus more on design over illustrative polish and this is a great example of effective simplicity. It may not have all the bells and whistles some of the other pieces do, but that lovely mountainous shape design coupled with just enough grimy detail hit me right in the design goolies.  Such an iconic, likeable character.  It really sucks you in the more you gaze into that pissed-off muppet face and makes you wonder how long it's been since he's showered.    

Honourable mention has to go out to Mihail Glooh, who took the theme, kicked it in the face and dragged it to another level. It was an extremely close second.
